Scope and Contents
Jury service files are primarily a geographically arranged clipping file with coverage of jury discrimination cases and of African American people serving on juries Files include reporting on many successful conviction appeals due to jury discrimination. Jury Service - Maryland files also includes correspondence from a survey of Maryland county clerks made by Carl J. Murphy in 1932 following the Euel Lee case, a letter from a juror describing his experience serving on a jury in Prince George's County, MD in 1932. Jury Service - West Virginia includes a letter from a lawyer sharing reporting on a successful appeal in Bluefield, W.V. The Jury Bias Case files document an unsuccessful 1942 death penalty appeal in Maryland.
